Stop Uprooting Yourself!

Personal goals are such fickle things.  Most human ambition is found in the achievement of the temporal.  Once we reach it, the satisfaction is not as fulfilling as we once thought.  This can send you on a lifelong journey of digging holes to plant yourself in, only to realize that the place you now sit can not supply the nourishment you need to thrive.  Thus you set another goal, dig another hole, only to uproot yourself in pursuit of another place, another goal, another dream.  Many of us spend our entire lives chasing dreams that we were never meant to capture.  When your life becomes a pursuit of all things temporal, it becomes easier and easier to spiral into pits of depression and frustration.  So before you continue hurting  yourself, let’s examine a few points here:

1.  Constantly uprooting yourself causes your life to be fruitless.  If you don’t give yourself time to lay a strong root structure, you can never bare good, healthy fruit.  You’ll work yourself to death, only to look back over your life and realize that you left nothing of lasting significance.

2.  Plant yourself in the soil of God’s will.  God has a plan for you.  Yet if you are like me, you can overload your mind and spend way too much time in prayer asking God to reveal to you what this grande purpose is.  Here is what I have found out lately.  YOUR PURPOSE WILL FIND YOU!  Don’t seek your purpose, seek Jesus.  Become an observer of your life.  Your purpose is wrapped up in the culmination of your life’s experiences.  How do I know?  Because God has been preparing you all your life for your purpose!

3.  Change your definition of success.  Success should not be measured by achievement of the temporal, but the eternal.  The Holy Spirit has taught me a new definition of success:  To be obedient to His voice.  In the end, if we can look back on our life and say, “Yes, I obeyed the voice of God when he said ___.”, then we have had a successful life.  This is a life of no regrets!
